Your quilt has been made to last. With minimal care, your quilt will be an heirloom for you to treasure a lifetime.

Cleaning Your Quilt

All of the quilts from the quilt-maker are machine washable.

Your first layer is 100% cotton fabric, which, has been cut up and sewed back together again, to create a pattern.

The cotton batting aborbs water like a towel. The backing material is a 100% cotton muslin fabric.

Machine Washing

I recommend you wash your quilt by itself in the washing machine.

Wash your quilt on the gentle/delicate cycle. Let the quilt agitate for two or three minutes, then let it soak for ten minutes. Agitate it again for two or three minutes. Then turn the machine to the spin cycle, letting it run until most of the water has drained from your quilt.

Your quilt is made of cotton please remember that it will absorb lots of water when it is being washed. Be kind to your quilt and washing machine - your water level should be at a medium or high level depending on the size of your quilt.

Rinse gently in the same manner as you did when washing. Allow the quilt to agitate for two or three minutes, then drain most of the water. Spin gently before removing it from the washing machine.

Soap

You do not need to use very much soap. Choose a mild product which does not have a harsh detergent and which contains no brighteners or bleach. Quilt Wash, Zero or Woolite are suitable brands.

Drying Your Quilt

After your quilt has been washed, it must be treated gently. Lay towels down and place the quilt on top. Carefully block the quilt in the same manner as you would do with a sweater. The quilt will dry in less than twenty-four hours and it will look beautiful.

The clothes dryer is your quilt's enemy! It will rob the color and eat away at the seam allowances of your quilt - so never put your quilt in the dryer.

Dry Cleaning

Never dry-clean your quilt. The chemicals from the dry cleaners are too harsh.

Pet Hair

If your quilt is covered in pet fur, instead of washing it, simply shake it outside or take a damp clean cloth and wipe the fur away.

Hand Washing

Some people prefer to hand wash their quilts.

Wash the quilt in the bath tub using warm water and a very small amount of soap. By using a small amount of the solution, you will find it easier to rinse the quilt.

Gently immerse the quilt in the water. Use your hands to provide a gentle plunging action. When the water becomes dirty, drain the tub. Push gently on the quilt to squeeze out the excess water.

Do not pick up the wet quilt!

Repeat the washing procedure until the water no longer shows dirt.

To rinse the quilt, fill the tub with clear water and gently plunge the quilt. Repeat until the water runs clear.

Do not try to lift the quilt until you squeeze out as much water as possible by pressing it against the side of the tub.

Gather the quilt together and put it into a laundry basket to carry outside. Spread towel in a shady area and place the quilt on them to air dry.
